Case Study: Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort

The hugely popular Wisconsin Dells attraction, Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, was looking to replace its aging wading pool with an aquatic play feature that would be more relaxing for adults with small children and require less supervision than the deeper pools.

CRS collaborated with Badger Swimpools, Inc. of Prairie du Sac to formulate a custom re-design of the space to include a Splashpad that could utilize the existing pumps from the old wading pool to create a new aquatic adventure. Re-using parts of the existing infrastructure not only made the project more economical for the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, but also more eco-friendly by reducing the amount of waste going to a landfill.

The resulting Bear Foot Island Sprayground is a 3364-square-foot Vortex Splashpad® that sprays, shoots and mists water upwards from geysers and jets in the raindeck and downward from woodsy-themed fountains, giant bull frog loops and silly water bugs. With no standing water, this “zero-depth” pad eliminates the need for lifeguards and even the youngest of children can safely enjoy the interactive sensation of water movements while their parents relax in the surrounding seating.

Building Systems Director for Wilderness Territory Brian Purdy was thrilled with the completed project as it addressed each of the resort’s challenges. He comments, “We were also able to customize components to fit our resort’s wilderness theme and the pad will allow for redesign to keep our guests coming back, as well as future expansion.”
