When your waterfront location requires a dock system, the transition between your shore and your dock system can be just as important as the dock system itself! We have many different lengths and styles available of ramps and gangways to create a sturdy pathway from land to waterfront. Choosing between a gangway or a ramp to use as the transition between your shore and your floating dock system can be incredibly simple. A good rule of thumb is to look at what your neighbors are using. Chances are, if your neighbor has a gangway, you may also need a gangway; if they have a ramp, you might need a ramp as well. You can also look at the span of distance between your floating dock system and your shoreline or seawall. Are you just trying to span a 4-foot reach, or do you need to get out 20 feet or more? In general, gangways are the best option when you need handrails or if you need to span a longer distance or have more water fluctuation. Ramps work well when you don’t want or need guardrails and only need to transition a short space or have less water fluctuation. All of our gangways include handrails, while ramps do not include handrails.
