Fantasy Lake Adventure Park, beautifully nestled in Wake Forest, North Carolina, contains a 65-acre quarry on 100 acres of captivating land. In 2023, the transformation began to turn a once-utilized scuba diving quarry into a vibrant recreational hotspot. With a phased approach taken in the project, developed by CRS Design and Recreation Specialist, Bill Spencer, the park’s primary goal was to activate the quarry lake and optimize its natural resources. By excavating the tree line in phase one, they created additional space for beach furniture, games, pavilions and the center piece of the site; the Aqua Park.
Featuring a Wibit and Peakz course along with a kid’s course, the Aqua Park invites visitors of all ages to explore the water. Surrounding the lake, beach furniture, floating cabanas and docks provide comfortable areas for guests to relax and extend their stay. For the thrill-seekers, a jumping station off the cliffside, visible from the waterfront, plunges you into the cooling quarry.
A modular layout of floating docks created a pier for their rentable watercrafts like kayak and standup paddleboards. With little infrastructure impact, these floating docks helped accomplish Fantasy Lake’s goal to optimize its space in a way that preserves the natural aspects of the quarry.
In phase two, towering Peakz were added as a split layout to the Aqua Park. Attractions beyond the waterfront like a colorful splashpad and pickleball courts were implemented in 2024. Additionally, the number of rentable amenities, like floating cabanas, doubled due to their success in generating extra revenue and providing guests with a comfortable place to lounge near the waterfront action.
In addition to the project’s aquatic design, CRS’ certified installation team helped assembled the Aqua Park in 2023 and 2024 to prepare Fantasy Lake for opening day. This requires anchoring all floating obstacles in the course to ensure guests have the safest and best experience on the Aqua Park.
Since opening, Fantasy Lake has skyrocketed in popularity. It’s even gained renowned recognition from YouTuber, Carter Sharer, who filmed a vlog in his challenge series at Fantasy Lake. “This thing is absolutely massive, with tiny islands, rope swings and diving platforms…it was a lot of fun and the park was insanely huge,” Sharer raved.
Overall, the strategic development encourages longer guest stays and has positioned Fantasy Lake Adventure Park as a premier waterfront attraction in North Carolina. CRS is proud to be a part of creating a destination like this that preserves the environment as our client hoped.
