Case Study: Eagles Nest Indoor Playground

New Brighton, Minnesota

A community favorite. The Eagles Nest Indoor Playground at New Brighton Community Center is a large indoor playground destination for children ages 12 and under. Over the years, Eagles Nest has seen several upgrades, but in 2017, city officials turned to community residents for input in determining what changes and features they’d like to see in the next renovation. Among them included increased capacity and more interactive and engaging play features.

New Brighton city officials then worked with Commercial Recreation Specialists (CRS) to design and install the desired upgrades. CRS’ design included separate age-based play areas to ensure that children of different learning levels have a safe and engaging play experience specifically geared toward unleashing their creative potential and encouraging both physical and cognitive development. CRS incorporated separate age-based play areas each featuring multiple new activities, including a 23′ high web tower challenge, a 36′ long quadruple wave slide, a walk-on piano keys player, a tight rope walk, a 14′ trolley challenge and hanging foam forest, a ball pit and a one-of-a-kind eagles nest and tree climb.

The toddler area also increased in size and now includes climb-on sculpted foam play pieces, activity panels, a tree slide, a 16′ lily pad walk, walk-on piano keys player, a themed carpet play area and toddler ball pit.

The newly renovated indoor playground boasts exciting and interactive features that children (and parents!) love! Along with a wider variety of interactive play options, the new design increased the playground’s capacity by 30 percent, allowing the facility to accommodate more families while generating additional revenue—win-win!
