Case Study: Alexander Park

From grassroots to a community treasure.  It all began as an idea to honor their local fire department. What better way than to create a signature park dedicated to their service?  Cold Spring was already considered a destination city, but it lacked a Splashpad® and a central place for their residents to gather, play, and enjoy.  With a location next to the picturesque Sauk River and close to downtown, the city couldn’t have had a better place for a new park. Support for the project quickly grew; the Cold Spring park committee was formed; fundraising was underway – it was time to make it happen.

To get the project started, the committee turned to Commercial Recreation Specialists (CRS) for their expertise in recreation planning and design.  A local engineering firm was brought in to assist with civil, landscape, and architectural work. With an understanding of the committee’s goals, CRS created a complementary design of wet play, dry play, and shade to elevate the park experience. By working closely together, this partnership of owner, engineer, and our design staff brought their ideas to life. Today, Alexander Park  is the pride of the community offering a beautiful gathering place for residents and tourists alike to socialize, enjoy a large variety of recreational fun, and make lifetime memories.
