Case Study: Coleman Country Day Camp

Merrick, New York

More capacity to have fun. Camp directors are always looking for ways to maximize fun for campers. They evaluated a sand play area and realized it just did not have the appeal so many other activates had. There had to be a better option. That’s where CRS came in to find a solution for the underused sand play area.

Building on the success of an existing Soft-Contained Play Unit, we recommended an additional 4-level play unit that would connect to the existing structure using a 24′ suspension bridge. Connecting the new soft contained unit would more than double the capacity of the popular activity.

To maximize the use of the play area we planned to include a roof system over both the new and existing units. The roof keeps the units shaded & cooler on sunny days, and dry on light rain days. Coleman Country Day Camp now has an extremely popular playground that can be used—rain or shine—by several hundred children at one time.
